DNA Testing, an Ongoing Miracle Worker in Crime Fighting
Daniel Lee

Compared to the forensics techniques used fifty years ago, today’s current technology makes those methods seem archaic. One such technique is DNA testing, which is constantly being improved as more research is conducted. The results of DNA testing are almost like a god send. For example, the perpetrator of a crime can be easily tracked down with a hair found at a crime scene or a small collection of blood. Although the effectiveness of DNA testing is well-known, one does not realize it until it is actually used. One such case is in the investigation of the death of Imette St. Guillen, who was a college student found dead near the Belt Parkway. Her body was found naked, with her ankles and wrists bound with plastic ties. However, with the use of DNA testing, investigators were able to link traces of the blood found on the plastic ties to a bouncer named Littlejohn.
