Fiber Evidence Leads Investigators to Suspect

Josh Leavitt

Forensic investigators of the New York Police Department used fiber and DNA evidence to determine a probable perpetrator in the murder of Imette St. Guillen. A section of red carpet in the home of Darryl Littlejohn (pictured to left) matched red fibers found on the victim’s body. Fiber analysis in the crime lab revealed a match. Additionally, investigators recovered DNA on Littlejohn’s blanket that did not belong to Littlejohn; police have speculated that the DNA found on the blanket was that of Imette St. Guillen. Clearly, forensic investigation still heavily uses corroborative evidence to zero in on a single suspect who can be linked with concrete physical evidence to the victim and the crime scene.
