Ballistics is usually associated with the motion of a bullet being fired. The motion of a projectile, from the instant of firing until impact at the target, is divided into three distinct phases. Interior ballistics treats the motion of a projectile while it is still in the gun. Exterior ballistics considers the motion of the projectile from the time it emerges from the gun until it reaches the target and terminal ballistics deals with the effect of the projectile on the target.
Police ballistics tests have confirmed that a handgun found in the possession of one of the two suspects in the Wendy's International Inc. slayings was used to kill five employees and wound two others in the basement of the Queens fast food restaurant last week. The police found the gun, a Bryco .380 caliber semi-automatic, in a belt pack that suspect John B. Taylor was wearing when he was arrested at his sister-law's home in Brentwood, N.Y.
In addition to the ballistic evidence, further forensics evidence was found at the scene to incriminate the suspects. The investigators found Mr. Taylor's palm print on a box in the blood-spattered refrigerator. DNA fingerprinting is very reliable, since with the exception of identical twins, the complete DNA of every individual is unique.
