Photographs taken by victims and the guilty party are substantial evidence. The time of photography may also affect their value. The three methods of determining when a picture was taken implement solar direction-measured from shadows in the photograph, identifying flowering wild plants and comparing cloudiness with meteorological observations. According to the studies of Levi JA, Novoselsky Y, and Levin N, solar direction is the most accurate and involved method.
