Shooting Case Finally Solved after 19 months
Alan Zhao
During a party in New Jersey on August 15, 1998, Herman Gaines shot and killed Kevin Lamar Hill. Police were unable to make a case against Gaines, because they were unable to link him to the murder weapon. Finally, after 19 months, police found the murder weapon on Otis Burrell. Using the Integrated Ballistics Identification System in New Jersey State police lab, Police were able to match the gun to the bullet that killed Hill. They were able to do this because each gun makes an impression on a bullet that is as different as fingerprints. The gun was determined to be a .44 Magnum handgun called Ruger Super Black Hawk. Apparently the gun was sold several times by Gaines and finally ended up with Burrell. Gaines will soon face murder charges.
