The New DNA Bank Solves Its First Case
Alan Zhao
Jonathan Williams, who was convicted of the murder of his girlfriend Stacy Austin, had his DNA collected into the new DNA database in Sep.1999. Using the DNA records, police were able to solve a rape case that occurred in June 1998. Before the new system came into place, DNA was collected from the victim but was not analyzed if there were no immediate suspects. Williams' DNA was quickly matched to the semen from the rape victim. The new system can save money and time for solving cases involving repeat offenders.
