Fiber Examination

Materials:
A Fiber Found at the Crime Scene
5 Different Samples of Fibers Each Belonging to a Different Suspect
Unlined, White Index Cards
Hand Lenses
Ruler

Procedure:
1. Place the fiber found at the crime scene lengthwise across an index card.
2. Use a hand lens to observe the color, shades of color and diameter of
the fiber.
3. Hold the fiber between your thumb and pointer finger and observe the 
tip of the fiber with your hand lens.
4. Observe the shape of the fiber.
5. Count the number of lobes the fiber contains.
6. Repeat steps 1 to 5 with each of the fibers belonging to each of the suspects.
