The Science Detective is a program developed in collaboration with
District 11 in the Bronx to excite students and teachers in the elementary and junior high schools to learn about forensic science investigations. Students and teachers alike learn about procedures and practices related to the proper collection and preservation of evidence at crime scenes and how to successfully evaluate evidence. In the process they learn about scientific methodology, problem-solving and communication skills in an interdisciplinary manner.
.

Join Officer Sherlock Hound as he investigates the crime scene and suspects in the "Grandma Gertie Caper". Who did it? Was it Mandy, Grandma Gerti's maid; Norman, Grandma's Nephew; Bud, Grandma Gertie's butler; Nancy, Grandma's niece; or Spike, Bud's dog - who is not talking!
For copies of activities in this investigation contact Mary Villani. Let us know who you think committed the crime. Please include all pertinent evidence that leads you to your conclusion. Send your projects/reports to Officer Sherlock Hound co: MaryVillani at Villani@bxscience.edu. Officer Hound is waiting to hear from you!!!

This Science Detective Crime Scene packet includes activities, workshop suggestions, and links for teachers interested in teaching forensic science to students in grades 3-8.
