Student ResourcesWho To Go To? The staff of Bronx Science is ready, willing and able to make your high school years as easy as possible. There are administrators, supervisors, teachers, support staff, parent, and community volunteers who have developed programs that students can use to solve their problems. The list below describes key members of the faculty and some services provided by the Bronx Science staff. The Assistant Principal of Guidance/College is responsible for the coordination of school-wide guidance programs and the support staff members.The Assistant Principal supervises the Guidance Counselors, the College Advisors, the Senior Advisor, the Coordinator of Student Affairs, the Advanced Placement Program, and Student Aid. If you have questions about these areas stop by the Guidance Suite 035. The Assistant Principal or the departmental secretary will be able to answer your questions related to guidance matters. The Senior Class Advisor - The Senior Class Advisor coordinates senior activities including Spirit Days, the Prom, and Graduation. The senior class advisor is located in Room 011 and can be reached at 718-817-7797. The Assistant Principal of Management Information Systems / Information Technology supervises the school's computer network, student scheduling and attendance, the attendance secretary, and coordinates technology projects in the school. The Assistant Principal MIS assists the principal with other special projects and programs. If you have questions about these areas stop by room 134 to see the AP-MIS Tel 718-817-7702. The Assistant Principal of Organization (APO) is responsible for school finances and budgets, the physical plant and security. The APO oversees areas such as supplies and inventories, telephones and student transportation, free and reduced lunch books and lockers and non-pedagogical staff (including school aides). The APO supervises the Security Coordinator, the School Safety Agents, the school aides, and the secretaries. The APO also serves as a liaison with the custodian. If you have questions about the school stop by room 135D or call 718-817-7734. The Coordinator of Security is responsible for the physical security of the students and building. Please contact the coordinator immediately regarding problems related to any safety or security concerns at 718-817-7794. An answering machine is available to take messages during the evening and early morning hours at 718-817-7772. Where To Go For Answers Athletic teams: If you have questions regarding teams, see the Assistant Principal of Physical Education in Room 048D or call 718-817-7770. Bus or train Pass: The Transportation Program (Metrocards) is administered from Room 112. The office is open from 8:00 AM through 12:00 PM. The office may be reached at 718-817-7700 x160. Private bus service is available from certain locations in Manhattan and Queens. Calendars and Schedules: Consult these web pages for the latest events and calendar for the School. If you need additional information, the "keeper of the calendar" (and schedules) is the Assistant Principal of Organization. Clubs: Bronx Science has had over 90 clubs and organizations. They can range from ethnic clubs to clubs of organizations representing particular ideas and interests. Each year new clubs are chartered. See the Coordinator of Student Activities at the back of the students' cafeteria for more information. College Information: The College Advisors provide students with information about the college selection process. The College Advisors works closely with the Guidance Counselors to provide information, communicate with colleges, assure that college selections are appropriate and that applications go out on-time. When you enter the school you will be issued an account on Naviance, a computer information system. As soon as you receive the account, log in using your activation code and begin preparing for college. You will be able to build an online portfolio, which will make your college application process easier. If you have any problems with your Naviance account see your guidance counselor. Deans' office: 047C- The Deans serve in a preventative and disciplinary role at Bronx Science. They are here to help avoid problems from occurring and to quickly resolve any problems. The Deans' office can be reached at 718 817-7794 Homework assignments if you will be ill a week or more: Call your guidance counselor. It is also a good idea to get the phone numbers / e-mail addresses of some classmates in each one of your classes in case you need a night's homework. You can also check your teacher's webpage for updated class information. Job or help in finding a job: check the bulletin boards outside of the Cafeteria. You may also consult your Guidance Counselor in Suite 035. Lockers: Locker assignments are administered from Rm. 112. If you have locker related problems you may visit room 112. Remember to check the lock on your locker every time you close it. Most missing items are due to improperly locked lockers. Video cameras monitor locker areas. If you discover that items from your locker are missing report it to the Deans' Office (047C) immediately. Lost or found article: The lost and found is maintained in room 112. Personal Problems: - See your guidance counselor. You can also speak with any teacher or administrator with whom you feel comfortable. Photo I.D. Photo I.D. cards are checked every morning for access to the building. Photos are taken in the fall term of freshman and junior year free of charge. If you lose your photo I.D. you need another. The photo booth (in room 112) is open each Wednesday periods 4-7. The cost of each additional I.D. is $2.00. You must carry your I.D. at all times. Questions: about school while you are at home: Call the school at 718-817-7700 or call your guidance counselor. Special Education and learning disabilities concerns: Speak with your guidance counselor. Student Government: See the Coordinator of Student Activities in the S.O. Office at the back of the students' cafeteria. Tel. 718-817-7744 Student to student problems: Try to solve the problem with the student first. If that does not work, any dean or your guidance counselor will help you. Teacher problems: If you have a problem with a teacher, try to work it out with the teacher outside of class. If you cannot work out the problem to your satisfaction, see the Assistant Principal. If he/she cannot help you, have a parent write/e-mail or call to make an appointment with the teacher or the Assistant Principal. You can also contact your guidance counselor for advice. Tutoring in any subject: Speak to your teacher to see if he/she can help you or give you ideas on how to help yourself. There are often teachers who tutor before, after, or during school who offer free tutoring to students. Also visit the Bronx science home page to check about tutoring schedules Working Papers: See the switchboard operator in the Main Office, Rm. 135. *Summer Hours: 8:30am-12:30pm* Remember, every student was once new to Bronx Science and your question is probably one that many students have. No problem is ever too small to talk about. There are many people to speak to who can help you. Enjoy your high school years! |
