The Bronx Science Speech and Debate Team Championed the Bronx Winter Local

The Bronx Science Speech and Debate team championed the Bronx Winter Local held on February 8, 2020. Click the headline to read about the team's many accomplishments.


Roni Shaham (’23) championed Congressional Debate and earned a qualification to the New York State Forensic League State Championship. Rohan Mehta (’21) placed 3rd, Sudiptha Paul (’23) placed 5th, and Zubayer Mahbub (’23) placed 6th, all earning a qualification to the New York State Forensic League State Championship. Kimberly Ng (’22), Shirish Patel (’23), Ayon Dutta (’23), Matthew Ferencz (’23), and Johann Paul (’23) all reached the finals round as well.

Hannah Bennett (’22) championed Junior Varsity Lincoln-Douglas Debate, and Tiffany Wang (’22) placed 2nd, both earning a qualification to the New York State Forensic League State Championship. Rory An (’22) had a winning record as well.

The team of Genevieve Morange (’22) and Harper Prentice (’22) championed Junior Varsity Public Forum Debate, earning a qualification to the New York State Forensic League State Championship. The team of Olivia Lin (’22) and Mia Goldberg (’22) placed 3rd, the team of Emelia Nacos (’22) and Kalina Stoyanova (’22) placed 4th, and the team of Carson Michel (’23) and Vivian Yellen (’23) placed 5th, all teams earning a qualification to the New York State Forensic League State Championship. The teams of Katia Anastas (’23) and Sela Emery (’23), Madeline Hatola (’22) and Dori Held (’22), David Kamenetz (’22) and Issay Niki (’22), Dylan Macleod (’23) and Felix Odenthal (’23), and Alexandra Oh (’22) and Emilia Pelegano-Titmuss (’22) all had winning records. Carson Michel (’23) earned 1st speaker, Katia Anastas (’23) earned 2nd speaker, Madeline Hatola (’22) earned 5th speaker, Vivian Yellen (’23) earned 6th speaker, Sela Emery (’23) earned 8th speaker, and Harper Prentice (’22) earned 9th speaker.

The team of Asuka Koda (’23) and Elizabeth Matta (’23) championed Novice Public Forum Debate and earned a qualification to the New York State Forensic League State Championship. The team of Mirabelle Altshuler (’23) and Grace Zagoria (’23) placed 2nd, the team of Hannah Nadler (’23) and Mia Zaslow (’23) placed 3rd, the team of Mary Dimyan (’23) and Daniella Roberts (’23) placed 4th, and the team of Donna Celentano (’23) and Andrew Morrissey (’23) placed 6th, all teams earning a qualification to the New York State Forensic League State Championship. The teams of Luke Ellerstein (’23) and Sabrina Tiger (’23), Aaron Bhanot (’23) and Paul Petrovici (’23), Jemima Eastwood (’23) and Alyssa Shore (’23), and Aaminah Bukhari (’23) and Faryll Jaffee-Lakatos (’23) all had winning records. Additionally, Asuka Koda (’23) earned 2nd speaker, Andrew Morrissey (’23) earned 3rd speaker, Donna Celentano (’23) earned 4th speaker, Elizabeth Matta (’23) earned 5th speaker, Sabrina Tiger (’23) earned 7th speaker, Luke Ellerstein (’23) earned 9th speaker, and Nikhil Soltau (’23) earned 10th speaker.

In Novice Policy Debate, the team of Guy Bloom (’23) and Thibault Kelsohn (’23) went undefeated. The teams of Raj Bajracharya (’23) and Moontachier Taseen (’23), James Donovan (’23) and Julia Kneile (’23), Ray Nobuhara (’23) and Nell Tov (’23), and Stuti Pardiwala (’23) and Farhan Sreejan (’23) all had winning records as well. Additionally, Stuti Pardiwala (’23) earned 1st speaker, Guy Bloom (’23) earned 2nd speaker, Farhan Sreejan (’23) earned 3rd speaker Moontachier Taseen (’23) earned 4th speaker, Nell Tov (’23) earned 5th speaker, Julia Kneile (’23) earned 6th speaker, James Donovan (’23) earned 7th speaker, Raj Bajracharya (’23) earned 8th speaker, Ray Nobuhara (’23) earned 9th speaker, and Tarun Vaidhyanathan (’23) earned 10th speaker.

In Extemporaneous Speaking, Camille Chen (’23) placed 3rd and Shiya Lin (’23) placed 4th, both earning a qualification to the New York State Forensic League State Championship. Ella Yellin (’22) placed 5th as well.

In Novice Lincoln-Douglas Debate, Rusem Paul (’23) placed 3rd, and earned a qualification to the New York State Forensic League State Championship. Nora Sissenich (’23), Spencer Chin (’22), and Kazi Gilman (’23) all had winning records as well.
